The journey to a new me...
is starting today. No dairy, gluten, sugar, caffeine, or alcohol for 30 days. After that, I can add them back one at a time to make sure that I don't have any allergies or weird symptoms from them. My first goal is 10 lbs lost and I desperately want to get off my blood pressure meds and my insulin. I figure if I make small goals, I can really make them.

Let's do it together, Mama. Got my lab results back today. Holy buckets, I'm a HOT MESS! Vitamin D deficient, thyroid is shot, elevated A1C, and triglycerides are way too high. And yes, gluten and dairy are a big problem and I already feel better without them. Eliminating them is HARD, though. It's hidden in everything! WATCH OUT for all those gluten free recipes and packaged foods. They're made from all kinds of naughty stuff like potato starch, corn starch, tapioca starch, and arrowroot...all of which are extremely high on the glycemic index. In other words, they are pretty much straight glucose and will send your blood sugar through the roof. My awesome friends have posted several good ideas on my regular FB wall the past few days, though. Once I can get all my cupboards cleaned out, I'm actually going to try to go completely grain free for at least the next couple of weeks if I can. No corn, rice, or any other grains. That pretty much leaves berries, nuts, and twigs...and if I tackle South Beach phase one, berries are out, too.
